Cold Testing Asphalt Complicated?

TSRST

Thermal Stress Restrained
Specimen Test

Simulate real-world conditions in your lab by cooling a compacted asphaltic concrete specimen at a constant rate while a servo-controlled applied load restrains the specimen from contracting.

Mount your instrumented specimen inside the insulated Environmental Cabinet and cool it with Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) from a user-supplied tank or with chilled, dry air. Control and monitor the test with the data acquisition and control system, which consists of transducers, signal conditioning electronics, a personal computer and OEM's TSRST user-interface software. The transducers include two LVDTs, a Load Cell, four Thermistors and a Resistance Temperature Device (RTD).

Measure specimen contraction with the LVDTs; monitor specimen temperature with the thermistors and monitor the environmental cabinet temperature with the RTD. Control the test, log data and generate On Screen Reports with the dedicated personal computer. Employ the OEM, Inc. Alignment Stand to ensure you mount your specimen perpendicular and central to the platens. Use the Calibration Device in conjunction with OEM's TSRST user-interface software to calibrate the LVTSs and Load Cell.

The TSRST was developed by Oregon State University (OSU) as part of a Strategic Highway Research Program grant, and OEM, Inc. is the only firm licensed by OSU to manufacture the apparatus. The TSRST meets the requirements set forth in AASHTO Specification TP10.
